Degree Overview

The Bachelor Degree in Business Administration program provides students with hands-on experience via close links to the industry. AUS is leading the charge in skills for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) through integrating the hard and soft skills our students will need to be competitive in the coming decades. Key learning methods to promote 4IR skills development are instilled in the program.

This program is for the student seeking to be part of an industry that is growing at twice the rate of growth of the world economy. It focuses on customer experience through the conceptualization and development of a brand, the ownership, and marketing of that brand, as well as its strategic positioning.

Chopard & Cie SA, etc. AUS is located within a few hours of Paris, Milan, and London, the top three-fashion capitals of the world.

Whilst at AUS, students will acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to launch their careers in the modern fashion business environment. The degree starts with several fundamental modules. These are followed by core business modules that give students a solid grasp of the fundamentals of business such as Branding, Management, Digital Marketing, and Entrepreneurship. Students will then dive further into their modules and learn the application of theory to their specialization ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the impact their knowledge can have.

Module Descriptions

Introduction to Management

The managerial principles and techniques underlying the successful organization are examined. Emphasis is placed on the basic functions of planning for future organizational growth, organizing and staffing for efficient operation. Effective leadership, motivational techniques, and practical methods of control.

Mgt. for Sustainable Development

This course will examine the framework of sustainable development in terms of economic development, social inclusion, governance & environmental stewardship. An overview of the world economy will be presented, exploring the concepts of population growth & demographics, poverty & income inequalities, environmental threats, social well-being, economic empowerment, urbanization & governance. The notions of convergence and divergence will be discussed with regard to income gaps & social inclusion. Participants will be encouraged to actively engage in discussions & exercises to measure and compare certain economic and social indicators in order to better grasp their meanings and applications.

Emerging Technologies

The fourth industrial revolution, or 4IR, is upon us, and emerging technologies are at its core. Businesses must adapt to this new reality or they will jeopardize their own survival. In this context, a solid understanding of emerging technologies and their potential value to an organization is critical for any business manager.

This course explores the current spectrum of emerging technologies from various perspectives, with a focus on their business application for competitive advantage. The emphasis is on fostering the development of students’ individual opinions on this fast-evolving theme.

This course starts by introducing an overview of emerging technologies. It then continues by exploring eight topics where some specific emerging technologies are explored for their disruptive potential. However, additional emerging technologies may be involved in any topical discussion. Indeed, since many of these emerging technologies are interconnected or even interdependent, each class is expected to touch upon topics otherwise covered in other classes. This reflects the complexity of the overall theme which must be grasped too. The course ends with a discussion on the application of ethics in using such technologies.

Business Strategy

This introductory strategy course emphasizes the fundamentals of corporate and business level strategy formulation, while also evaluating inter-related aspects of strategy implementation (via strategic case analysis). Strategic management is a set of managerial decisions and actions that affect the long-run performance of the firm, in its business environment. It includes environmental scanning (internal and external), strategy formulation, strategy implementation and evaluation and control. To be successful in the long run the firm must not only be able to execute current activities in existing markets, it must also be able to adapt its activities to new and changing markets. This course will provide conceptual frameworks, tools and techniques to analyze, develop, and implement firm strategies, including discussion of the dynamics and evolution of industry structure, and the pattern of interaction among the competitors in the industry. The course will also discuss assessment of the organizational resources that form the basis for firm-specific capabilities (internal assessment) that can be leveraged to develop strong/superior competitive strategy in the marketplace. Aspects of strategy implementation and feedback/control will be briefly discussed alongside the strategy formulation and analysis aspects.

Leadership and Team Building

The course aims to introduce the key theories and paradigms of leadership with a view to develop the student’s personal framework for becoming a successful manager and leader. Through self-assessment exercises, the students will identify the areas in their skill set that will benefit from continuous improvement, with a view to become a better team player, manager,

Human Resource Management

Most companies will proclaim that the people are their most important asset. Managing people effectively is an important element of organizational effectiveness and a base for the long-term, sustainable competitive advantage. Through this course, students will develop an understanding of how decisions related to managing human resource contribute to organizational effectiveness and a firm’s competitive advantage.

Organizational Behavior

Organizational Behavior course deals with human behavior in a variety of organizations and business situations. Great part of our lives we spend in organizations. As students in schools and universities, as adults in offices and factories, as consumers in leisure organizations like clubs and shops. We will view differently the organizations when we put to practice and reflection what we already know about structures that surround us. And we will possibly be better in acting within them as well as managing and directing them as leaders. As we start developing the conceptual framework, the in-depth case discussions, and skill-oriented activities will be applied to each topic. Covered topics will include motivation and attitudes, values and personality, group and team dynamics, leadership, communications, power, conflicts and negotiations, change management and organizational design.
