GENEVA, SWITZERLAND, MAY 24, 2019 – The International Aviation Transportation Association (IATA) and the American University in Switzerland (AUS) announced a partnership recognizing AUS as an IATA Authorized Training Center. For this important occasion AUS President, Dr. Mohamad El-Khansa, convened with the Director of IATA Training, Stephanie Siouffi, in the European headquarters of IATA in Geneva Switzerland.

Aviation is a booming industry. Every day, over 11 million people and 140,000 tonnes of cargo travel by air and help to create millions of jobs. Over the next two decades, the demand for air transportation will double, resulting in ever-increasing job creation. IATA is one of the leading organizations in the air transportation industry and has helped establish international standards for the aviation industry for more than seven decades. Its goal is to make flying more safe, secure, and efficient. It is the trade association of the world’s airlines, representing over 290 airlines that correspond to 82% of total air traffic. Moreover, IATA trains thousands of people each year around the globe.

Starting in September of 2019, AUS will offer Bachelor and Master Degrees with specialization in Aviation Management as well as specific IATA training courses and certificates. Some of the AUS courses offered include Air Transport Fundamentals, which provides an overview of the air transportation system and illustrates the interdependencies among its various components; Aviation Security Awareness, which looks into introducing security measures and regulations that help keep the industry safe and Airline Marketing, which explores tools that help to stay ahead of the competition.
