AUS prides itself in its constant efforts to link academia to industry. Not only does the university have faculty members with strong ties to their field of business, but it also offers hands-on practical experience and field trips to multinational organizations.
This week Professor Sanja Fabrio took her Master students from the ‘Leading in the VUCA World’ class to an industrial visit at Nestlé’s Rive-Reine Training Center. Bertrand Rajon, Head of Management & Executive Leadership Education at Nestlé Corporate Training gave an interactive speech about the center.
Nestlé is a renowned Swiss multinational food and beverage corporation with its headquarters in Vevey, Switzerland. It employs 300,000 employees worldwide with the objective of enhancing the quality of life and contributing to a healthier future.
Nestlé founded the Rive-Reine training center in order to provide training sessions for employees from all over the world for 1- or 2-week training sessions. The center trains around 2,000 people per year. They all work in various departments ranging from HR, Finance, Operations, Research & Development, to Marketing & Sales.
The industrial visit provided insight for AUS students into a successful organization and its training activities. Discussions revolved around good leadership with students providing their points of view. Motivating employees, having he ability to solve problems, having the ability to create goals and plans of action with positive results, were among the answers provided. Being a good role model and having a clear vision were also mentioned as assets of a good leader. The visit was followed with a discussion on the ways Nestlé uses to motivate employees, providing them with intrinsic motivation such as training rather than extrinsic motivation such as money.
AUS students were able to take advantage of the close proximity of the school to Nestlé’s training center in La Tour-de-Peilz. La Tour-de-Peilz, 20 minutes away from Lausanne, has just been ranked the ‘world’s best small city’. A charming town by the lakeside, La Tour-de-Peilz not only provides numerous leisure activities but it also provides links to multinational corporations such as Nestlé.
